  CAUSES OF ATTENTION DEFICIT HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER (ADHD)   During this month of September, which is set aside as 'Suicide Prevention Month', we at  Kirangi Dogs  are creating awareness on ADHD, a neurodevelopmental and neuropsychological disorder which if untreated can lead to depression, anxiety and increased incidence of suicide.   First, we would like to state that the information we share here is sorely for the purpose of creating awareness and is not meant to be used for the purpose of diagnosis or treatment.   A.D.H.D., AUTISM AND DOGS Creating awareness on diagnosis and available interventions As the director of Kirangi Dogs I, happen to be an Occupational Therapist as well. Occupational therapists work with patients that have diverse conditions, among them being Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (A.D.H.D.) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (A. S D.).   During my college years, the years I worked with the ministry of Health and private practice, I have worked with families and individuals who have these two conditions. Of great concern to me is the huge gap in terms of knowledge, awareness, lack of diagnosis, myths and misunderstandings surrounding these two conditions within our population. As a result, I set my heart to one day launch a forum that can create awareness on these two conditions through educating our people on their incidences, symptoms, how they affect the individual, families and communities, and the available medical and therapeutic interventions.   HISTORY OF THE BLACK RUSSIAN TERRIER The Black Russian Terrier is considered to be among the newest and most rare pure dog breeds in the world.  After the Second World War, working dogs became essentially extinct in Russia. Many stud dogs in particular were killed during the war. The Russians felt the need to develop a breed of their own that could fill in the gap. Under the leadership of Colonel G. Medvedev, the Central Military School of Working Dogs, known also as the Red Star Kennel, sort to develop a large, strong dog  with a well-balanced temperament. The aim was to develop a dog that could be used in diverse ways such as guarding military installations, industrial premises, prisons, agricultural areas and borders. The dog had to be hardy, adaptable,easy to train, of substantial size, and capable of working in different kinds of severe climates. Such a noble goal was certainly challenging to achieve.
